Every kilometre your van, truck, or car travels, it can be selling for you. Vehicle graphics and fleet wraps are the only advertising medium that works 24 hours a day, goes wherever you go, and costs nothing per impression. Studies of out-of-home advertising consistently show that a single wrapped vehicle generates tens of thousands of impressions a month — and unlike a billboard, you don’t pay rent for the space. For plumbers, electricians, caterers, couriers, and every other business that sends vehicles into the GTA, a wrapped fleet is one of the best advertising returns available.
Full Wrap, Partial Wrap, or Graphics?
- Full wraps cover the entire vehicle — hood, roof, doors, and bumpers. Maximum impact and the most advertising space, at the highest cost. Best for vehicles that are the business itself: food trucks, service vans, shuttle buses.
- Partial wraps cover the sides and often the rear, leaving the roof and hood unwrapped. This is the sweet spot for most businesses — roughly 60–70% of the visual impact of a full wrap for about half the cost.
- Spot graphics and lettering — a logo, phone number, and website on the doors. The budget option that still turns a plain van into a professional-looking work vehicle.
If you’re just starting out, a partial wrap or strong door graphics gets you advertising on the road today, with the option to go full-wrap when the budget grows.
What Does a Vehicle Wrap Cost?
In the GTA, realistic ranges are: door lettering and simple graphics from $400–$1,000 per vehicle; a partial wrap from $1,500–$3,500; and a full wrap from $2,800–$6,000+ depending on vehicle size and design complexity. These are honest numbers — the cheap deals you see online usually mean thin vinyl, poor installation, or designs that ignore the vehicle’s curves and seams. A wrap that bubbles, lifts, or fades within a year is no bargain at any price.
Design Rules That Make Fleet Graphics Work
A wrapped vehicle is a moving billboard with roughly three seconds of attention in traffic. The same legibility rules that apply to storefront signs apply here — magnified:
- One message. Pick the single most important thing: your business name, or a phone number, or a service. Trying to fit all three prominently just makes all three unreadable.
- Big type, high contrast. You can’t read small text on a moving vehicle. The company name should be readable from 15–20 metres away at a glance.
- Design around the vehicle. Door handles, panel seams, and window edges interrupt artwork. A good designer incorporates them instead of fighting them.
- Leave windows functional. Drivers need to see out. Perforated window film exists for full-coverage looks, but it darkens visibility — use it sparingly, and never on windshields or front side windows where visibility is legally critical.
- White space is your friend. Cluttered wraps read as noise. Strong colour blocks and generous empty space make the message pop.
Materials and Installation Quality Matter
Commercial vehicle wraps use cast vinyl — a material engineered to conform to curves and resist shrinking, unlike cheaper calendared film. A proper wrap is installed with heat application, careful squeegeeing, and precision trimming around edges. Ask your sign company which vinyl brands they use (3M, Avery Dennison, and Arlon are industry standards) and whether they install in-house. Also ask about removal: quality film comes off cleanly years later, which matters when you sell the vehicle or rebrand.
Care and Lifespan of Wraps
A well-installed wrap lasts 5–7 years for partial coverage and 3–5 years for full wraps, depending on sun exposure and washing habits. Hand washing with mild soap beats automatic car washes with stiff brushes. Waxing is unnecessary; parking in the shade and washing off bird droppings and road salt (which is brutal on vinyl edges in Ontario winters) will stretch the life considerably. Most reputable shops warranty their wraps against peeling and fading for the first year or two.
